Healthcare PRO SELF-CARE
for Sustainability...

These reflections are for my fellow spiritual care & palliative clinical pros because community matters ...& it is important in my work to remember that I am not alone – even when I am the only one breathing in the room.

Satisfied with "What Is" and why I play the lottery...

THE great conversation starter of last week: What would YOU do with 1.5 billion?

Most people I asked the question of, hadn't seriously considered it as I have.  They spouted off our human standard of quitting X, leaving Y, or buying Z.  Nothing wrong with that, of course. I have that list, too.

But...I PLAY the lottery because I want to stretch my mind to dream bigger.  Life is a game and I want to be fully in. By being in the game, I challenge myself to dream again, while not needing my life to be different.

If I needed my life to be different, it would not be play.  It would look more like addiction.

And Hey, I do it responsibly...

I have ONE number, and the ONE knows what it is. I buy ONE ticket per draw...and most of it goes to education anyway, so it is in my 'charity" budget.

But this is the kicker: I am willing to accept changes to 'WHAT IS' while being satisfied with it, too
If I won, my life would change a lot.  All you have to do is search the Internet for Lottery winners and you get an abundance of bad luck stories... but this is my way of gratefully accepting What IS right here, and right now while playing with what might be.

I have always worked too hard...
Being a five-time entrepreneur, I know intimately the trench warfare of making dreams happen. But what if funding was just bestowed upon me.  I have spent many years of my life asking for money to grow ideas, getting some funding, not getting it, and doing it anyway – in the bootstrap mode.  It brought me here, to a satisfied life, so in this respect it is ALL GOOD but...

BUT...
But to have that kind of abundance to play with (I almost typed 'work with'), would be a test of who I am now.  I am a cultural creative; I am an artist, a  landscape architect, a techie, a graduate of caregiving a parent for a decade of dementia, and now I am an Interfaith chaplain in hospice.

What would I do?   I would MAKE stuff, of course.
  1. gardens to heal people - everywhere labyrinths, courtyards, fountains, flowers, trees ...fun.
  2. give away money to women entrepreneurs - near and far
  3. create a better way to care for our elders by NOT warehousing them homogeneously & away as we do with our industrial food systems.  It is unhealthy, and I would rather it not happen to me. Multi-generational households come to mind - but ones of both found family and DNA relations, too.  I have in mind, people like me, of course.
  4. ...and whatever other good ideas that I might cooked up or have heard of that might heal and be fun.

What would you do and who would you be while doing it?  Playing with this is great fun.
