What does a beautiful life have to do with a beautiful death? Like all Day of the Dead festivities that are all around the Bay Area this week and this painting which has inspired my post, there are beautiful deaths. Living in the future... does not make a good death. As a hospice chaplain it is easy to see this in the lives and deaths of my patients, their families ...and myself (if I am paying attention...)that appreciating life as it is NOW is what makes a good life. We all do it - future living...it spoils appreciating the awesome 'WHAT IS" of our lives. I know it is spooky. Don't be afraid. I know its scary: appreciate your life, right here and right now. It won't spoil your future. It won't diminish your drive. It might just show you the way to a great life and better future. Can I get an AMEN?
